Get Out! And Join Us This Spring and Summer
Slap on the sunscreen, grab your water bottle and pull on your hiking boots. It’s time to get out in nature and explore the places you are helping protect.
The Nature Conservancy is holding a series of events this spring, summer and fall across Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota to encourage our supporters to Get Out!
Registration: All of the activities are free but trip capacity is limited and registration may be required.
Moon Walk
Location: Cascade Falls at The Nature Conservancy's Whitney Preserve near Hot Springs, SD
Date: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013
Overview: Go on a unique moonlight hike as we explore the very distinctive geologic features of Cascade Falls at The Nature Conservancy's Whitney Preserve.
Pigeon Point Preserve
Location: Pigeon Point Preserve near Lisbon, ND
Time and Date: 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 25, 2013
Overview: Bring the family, pack a lunch, bring a kite or two and explore our Pigeon Point Preserve. RSVPs encouraged.
Felton Prairie Birding
Location: Meet at our Northern Tallgrass Prairie Ecoregion office at our Bluestem Prairie Preserve near Glyndon, Minnesota
Time and Date: 7:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday June 1, 2013
Overview: Join us for a wonderful opportunity to see rare grassland birds such as the chestnut-collared longspur within Felton Prairie. Trip capacity is limited to nine people, first-come, first serve. RSVP via e-mail no later than May 24.
Birds & Blooms Hike
Location: Schaefer Prairie Preserve, near Glencoe, Minnesota.
Time and Date: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013
Overview: Conservancy volunteer David Astin will guide you through one of the best examples of a tallgrass prairie anywhere near the Twin Cities.
Canoe/Kayak the Mississippi
Location: Kiwanis Park on the Mississippi River, Brainerd, Minnesota
Time and Date: 10 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013
Overview: Bring your canoe or kayak and enjoy 7 miles of boating on the lazy river. Depart from Kiwanis Park in Brainerd and take out at Crow Wing State Park. The Nature Conservancy and Crow Wing State Park staff will serve as guides. Shuttle service will be provided.
Prairie Photography Workshop
Location: Samuel H. Ordway, Jr. Memorial Preserve, South Dakota
Time and Date: 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday July 13, 2013
Overview: Join Nature Conservancy staff as they guide you through Ordway Prairie. As you stroll through rolling hills, you will learn the art of nature photography and more about the Conservancy's work. RSVPs encouraged.
Creek Clean Up
Time and Date: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday August 6, 2013
Location: Rapid City, SD
Overview: Join us as we help clean up Rapid Creek between Canyon Lake Drive and the W. Main Bridge.
Lake Alexander Open House

Time and Date: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013
Overview: Join us for an 11 a.m. presentation by Kristen Blann, freshwater ecologist for The Nature Conservancy. There will be a picnic lunch and a hike for everyone to enjoy.
