Meet at the BP gas station in Pickford by 8am to be assigned a birding area
Anyone interested in participating come to the BP gas station in Pickford by 8am to be assigned a birding area. Registration is not necessary, but anyone interested or with questions can contact the Conservancy’s UP office at (906) 225-0399 or upmichigan@tnc.org.
If you have a bird feeder and live in Hessel, Cedarville or along Highway 129 to Pickford, including the town of Pickford, you can help too! This would include any home and feeder east and west of highway 129 for 2 miles in each direction. Count all the birds you see at your feeder on December 28, 2012.
To conduct the count, observers follow designated routes within a specified 15-mile circle, adding up the number species and the number of birds within that species. Birds are counted through visual identification or their call. Other factors such as temperature, wind, and precipitation are also noted.
To learn more about the Christmas Bird Count, including a detailed history and data from previous counts, visit the National Audubon Society’s website at http://www.christmasbirdcount.org.
