Legacy Club

This year, the Conservancy’s Legacy Club turns twenty. In honor of this milestone, we interviewed Ed Cadogan, who champions this program in Kentucky and other state chapters throughout the Southeast.

Through the Legacy Club, the Conservancy recognizes supporters who have made a life-income gift or named the Conservancy as a beneficiary in their estate plans by providing them with exclusive benefits and insider information. Contact Amanda Sparrow for more information on how you can join the Legacy Club!

Ed Cadogan, Senior Associate Director of Gift Planning for The Nature Conservancy

TNC-KY:

What is your specific role when it comes to gift giving within the organization?

Ed Cadogan:

I assist the Conservancy’s chapter boards in the southeast region with setting up a Legacy Club in their state. Within those chapters, I also work with donors and their financial advisors to put together a philanthropic plan that recognizes the Conservancy in their estate plans or through a life income gift.

TNC-KY:

Anything to note with regard to Kentucky?

Ed Cadogan:

We recently recognized The Nature Conservancy of Kentucky as a “Trustee Legacy Champion” – a distinction bestowed upon state chapters having 50 percent or more of active trustees enrolled in the Legacy Club. This is an impressive milestone that only thirteen other chapters have achieved. It shows how forward-thinking the Kentucky Board’s commitment is to the chapter and to the state’s natural heritage.

TNC-KY:

What about staff in Kentucky?

Ed Cadogan:

Kentucky’s staff joins their Board of Trustees in leading by example with a goal of reaching 100% participation. To date, 66% of the chapter staff are Legacy Club members. It is impressive to witness their level of commitment.

TNC-KY:

So put in your plug! Why should someone join The Nature Conservancy of Kentucky’s Legacy Club?

Ed Cadogan:

Deferred gifts like those given through Legacy Club membership provide the Conservancy with a significant base of future funding. It is a thoughtful and easy way to give that doesn’t cost anything during a person’s lifetime while allowing them to invest in a natural world that will inspire and benefit future generations.
