W. Plumer "Buck" Wiseman

In 2007, an estate planner at W. Plumer “Buck” Wiseman’s law firm directed his attention to The Nature Conservancy of Kentucky after clients had included the organization in their wills.

“He knew that I was an outdoors guy,” says Wiseman, General Counsel at the Louisville-based Bingham Greenebaum Doll, LLP. “I really stumbled into my involvement with the Conservancy, and am glad I did.”

Over the years, Wiseman has lent his expertise in real estate and property law to the Conservancy, whose staff regularly engages in land acquisitions and conservation easement agreements. Most recently, that has involved supporting the Conservancy’s efforts to secure and protect an unprecedented amount of land in the Big Rivers Corridor, where Wisemen encouraged and applauded persistence when the prospects did not look good. He adds, “It eventually paid off, and I hope, sets the stage for pursuing more projects at such a scale in the future.”

In return for his input, Wiseman has enjoyed getting to know more about the Conservancy and its work around the world. His involvement also gets him outside more, which fuels another passion: hunting and the sport of beagling, in particular. In fact, Wiseman and his pack of 25 to 30 beagles represent the only pack in Kentucky recognized by the National Beagle Club.

“When I’m not working in law, I’m outdoors,” says Wiseman. “It makes a lot of sense to give back to conserving Kentucky’s natural landscape where I spend most of my free time.”
