Kentucky Celebrates America Recycles Day

America Recycles Day is every year on November 15th.

Taking place each year on November 15th, America Recycles Day represents a day to focus on the important activity of recycling. It couldn’t come at a better time. Before the season of giving (and receiving), take the time to reflect on your own consumption habits and specifically what is done with items you no longer want or need. Many of them – clothes, furniture, electronics, hazardous materials, toys and even food – can be dedicated to another purpose. It just takes some time and the desire to “waste not, want not.”

Participate in America Recycles Day on November 15th!

At The Nature Conservancy of Kentucky’s headquarters in Lexington, recycling has become second nature. Our efforts are made easier by the city government, which provides large recycling containers for paper, glass, aluminum and some plastics.  Other recycling practices we engage in when not out in nature include:

  • Whenever it’s practical, we double-side printed and copied material to save on paper.

  • We reuse as many mailing envelopes as we can.

  • We send broken or obsolete electronic equipment and compact fluorescent bulbs to the city’s recycling center.

  • We collect food scraps to be composted by Director of Operations Terry Bopp.

  • We purchase items  such as copy paper, paper towels and other items that are made from recycled materials.
