Directions
Kankakee Sands: The Kankakee Sands Project office is located at 3294 North U.S. 41, just two miles north of the town of Enos. Look for the white barn with the big green oak leaf on the west side of U.S. 41. Driving maps of the restoration are available here.
From Rensselaer, travel west on S.R. 114 approximately 16 miles to U.S. 41 and turn right (north). Continue roughly 5 miles to the restoration project office (situated on the remains of the "Bogus Island") located on the left side of the road.
Ohio-Wabash Confluence: From Evansville, travel west on SR 62 approximately 17 miles to Mount Vernon. Turn south on SR 69 and travel 4 miles to Bonebank Road (on the right side). Turn right and go straight at the sharp curve to the left (you will now be on a gravel road). You should now be on Spencer Ditch Road. Stay on Spencer Ditch Road until you get to Halfmoon Road. Take Halfmoon Road around Halfmoon Pond and look for the site on your right.
We have family-friendly volunteer workdays scheduled for the second Saturday of each month. Join us!
We also have several long-term volunteer positions available: Trail Steward, Water Level Monitor, Herbarium, Greenhouse, and Stewardship Volunteers. These are new positions for committed individuals able to work regularly and independently throughout the year.
For more information on upcoming workdays and the volunteer positions contact Alyssa Nyberg by e-mail at anyberg@tnc.org or by phone (219) 866-1706. Thank you!
