Kankakee Sands Workday

September 13, 2014
9 a.m. - noon Central Time

Kankakee Sands Nature Preserve in Newton County | Show Directions

Directions

We will meet at the Kankakee Sands Native Plant nursery located at 1492 W 250 N, Morocco, IN, 47963.

Fall is the season when prairie seeds are literally falling from the plants.  Come help us catch seeds!  The seeds will be used this winter for our prairie restoration plantings.  We will be using scissors, hand scythes, and our fingertips to harvest the seeds and put them into paper and fabric bags.  After harvesting the seeds, we will transport them to our seed barn facility for drying and planting this winter. The drive to the seed barn will be an opportunity to view Kankakee Sands and discuss restoration work.  The workday is very family friendly and appropriate for all ages and abilities.

No experience necessary.  Fleece clothing is not recommended as it collects seeds!  Feel free to bring your lunch and have a picnic on the prairie or hike a trail at Kankakee Sands after the workday.

RSVPs appreciated but not necessary. Contact Alyssa Nyberg or call (219) 866-1706 for more information and to RSVP.  We will begin the morning at the Kankakee Sands Native Plant nursery located at 1492 W 250 N, Morocco, IN, 47963.
