Come enjoy the spectacular shows of mid-summer wildflowers out in our prairie restorations here at Kankakee Sands! Late summer is one of the peaks for wildflower activity, and the prairie has a truly beautiful array of colors. Our work today will focus on removing threats to our native wildflowers and grasses that call the prairie home. To do this, we will be hand-pulling one of several invasive species that threaten to reduce the biodiversity of the prairie. Our spring weather will dictate our target plant this month, but options include common mullein, wild carrot, common teasel, or Canada thistle.

We will provide training, work gloves, eye protection, and any other necessary protective gear. Some form of work-boot (hiking or leather) is strongly recommended, along with long pants and long sleeves. A hat to provide your own, personal patch of shade is always a great idea as well! We have tasks for all levels of physical ability, so come one come all!

Please contact Tony Capizzo or call (219) 285-2184 with questions or to RSVP.  Meet at our Nature Conservancy Office located at 3294 N US 41, Morocco IN  47963.
