LEAF

Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future

Tatyanna Redmond, Student at Al Raby High School in Chicago

The Nature Conservancy asked Tatyanna a few questions about her upcoming LEAF internship. Here's what she had to say:

TNC:

You’re about to start your LEAF internship. What’s going through your head right now?

Tatyanna:

I’m thinking a lot about the transportation and how I’m going to get there. I’m also thinking a lot about our project. We’re building a boardwalk, and I’ve never built anything before!

TNC:

What are you hoping to learn from your LEAF internship?

Tatyanna:

I’m hoping to learn more about nature, how things are made and about the areas where a lot of our products come from.

TNC:

What have you learned at Al Raby that you can apply to your internship?

Tatyanna:

I’ve learned how to conserve energy. We also take trips over to the Garfield Park Conservatory and draw pictures and learn about the plants and things like recycling.

TNC:

Are you nervous about anything?

Tatyanna:

I’m nervous about the bugs and being itchy. But, I’ll come prepared with the right clothes and bug repellant, so I’ll be fine.

TNC:

What excites you the most?

Tatyanna:

I’m excited to help the environment in a way that people can benefit from too.

TNC:

How do you think this experience will help you when deciding your career?

Tatyanna:

I’m thinking of becoming a pediatrician, so I think this experience will help me because I can learn about allergies, reactions and a lot of the plants our medicines come from.

TNC:

Anything else you’d like to add?

Tatyanna:

I think The Nature Conservancy is providing a great program because this gives people a chance to help others and the environment. This is just a really good program.
