LEAF

Leaders in Environmental Action for the Future

Danyell Myles, Student at Al Raby High School in Chicago

The Nature Conservancy asked Danyell a few questions about her upcoming LEAF internship. Here's what she's looking forward to, nervous about and hopes to learn.

TNC:

What are you expecting your LEAF internship to be like?

Danyell:

I’m expecting to be surrounded by a lot of open space, trees.

TNC:

What are you most excited about?

Danyell:

I’m really excited to get into nature and see scenery different than Chicago. I’m also looking forward to getting away from home and being on my own for a little while.

TNC:

What are you hoping to learn from your LEAF internship?

Danyell:

I want to learn how to work better with a team, how to listen and to see what it’s like to live on my own and with new people. I think through all this I’ll learn more about myself and make new friends.

TNC:

What have you learned at Al Raby that you can apply during your internship?

Danyell:

I went on a service learning trip to cut invasive species, and I think that’s going to help me when I’m outside working. I’m also involved in a lot of sports at Al Raby, and that has taught me dedication and hard work.

TNC:

Are you nervous about anything?

Danyell:

Well, I really don’t like insects. I can deal with them, but I’m really just not a fan.

TNC:

Anything else you want to add?

Danyell:

Right now I want to be a surgeon, but I’m not 100 percent sure. I hope this trip will give some other ideas of careers I could I have and ones that I might not necessarily think of doing.
