Remembering Corky Hamill

The Nature Conservancy remembers longtime supporter and Legacy Club member Corwith (Corky) Hamill, who passed away July 11 at the age of 99.

Corky, along with his family, were visionaries in establishing the Visitor’s Use Facilities at Emiquon. Corky attended many Conservancy events over the years, including a special, private ceremony at Emiquon in honor of his family’s gifts to the preserve (pictured at right).

In addition to his support of The Nature Conservancy, Corky was an early board member of Openlands and was involved with the Brookfield Zoo for more than 50 years.

The Hamill family’s commitment to conservation was led by Corky. This conservation ethic continues with Corky’s three children: current Illinois Board of Trustee members Jon Hamill and Nancy Winter and their sister, Betsy Bramsen. The Hamill family’s strong commitment to and support of conservation is greatly appreciated and is an inspiration to us all.
