Why I Give

Mary Bachman and Bill Downing have been supporters of The Nature Conservancy in Idaho for such a long time that they can't recall first learning about the organization! Once they became aware of the Conservancy's work and outstanding reputation, they knew they had to participate.

Nature.org:

Why do you give to The Nature Conservancy?

Mary Bachman & Bill Downing:

The Nature Conservancy has an excellent reputation for conserving special landscapes and unique habitats around the globe, and for doing so creatively and in a fiscally responsible manner. For us, safeguarding the land is the key to virtually all other environmental goals, from improving the quality of water and air, to assuring habitat for animals, to providing spaces for humans to experience the regenerative power of nature.

Nature.org:

What is your favorite place in nature?

Mary Bachman & Bill Downing:

So many places nourish our souls. Picking a favorite is nearly impossible, but several places are special to us: the majestic mountain ranges of the Rockies from Colorado to Canada, the surreal beauty of the American Southwest, the rugged coastline of Northern California, the savannah of Eastern Africa and the ethereal icescape of Antarctica.

Nature.org:

Tell us about your favorite memory or experience in nature.

Mary Bachman & Bill Downing:

Being amidst lions feasting on a fresh kill in the Serengeti, spying on wolves and grizzlies in Yellowstone, listening to elks bugle in the Tetons, birding in the jungles of Costa Rica, being surrounded by 500,000 king penguins in Antarctica. How could we possibly choose a favorite?

Nature.org:

What is your holiday wish for nature?

Mary Bachman & Bill Downing:

Our most ambitious wish is that all people everywhere will act to protect the planet we call home. Our more realistic wish is that The Nature Conservancy and other organizations dedicated to environmental protection have a banner year in 2014 and continued success in the years to come.
