Picnic for Earth

What will you do to celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd?

Each year on Earth Day, The Nature Conservancy convenes people all over the world for a Picnic for Earth. Picnic for Earth highlights the challenges facing our global agricultural systems and the actions people can take to create a more sustainable food chain. On April 22nd, we invite you to join us at a Picnic site, commit to having a sustainable meal (or two) and lend a hand in the global movement to leave a sustainable world for future generations.

  • Rodney Square [April 22nd, 11am-2pm] The Conservancy in partnering with the City of Wilmington and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary in hosting a city-wide Earth Day event. Pack a fresh, locally-produced lunch or grab a bite from a nearby food truck and join us at our Picnic for Earth tent!
  • Delaware Technical Community College – Stanton & Wilmington Campuses [April 22nd, 11 am-1 pm] The Conservancy will participate in the Delaware Technical Community College’s Picnic For Earth, which will feature exhibits, activities and of course, food.

Even if you can’t join us, we encourage you to have your own picnic or informal gathering. Invite friends and colleagues and share your Picnic photos on Facebook.

Other ways to celebrate Earth Day in Delaware:

  • Eat local. Choose restaurants that use locally sourced foods.
  • Shop local. Stop by a farmer’s market close to home.
  • Sign up for a CSA. Supporting community supported agriculture, or a CSA, secures a share of local vegetables for you from May through October and provides a local farmer with predictable income during good years and bad.
