NATURAL TREASURES IN OHIO
North Chagrin Reservation
Why It's a Natural Treasure
Located in Mayfield Village, Willoughby Hills and Gates Mills, North Chagrin Reservation boasts an extensive beech-maple forest along the Chagrin River. This forest supports an array of wildlife, from neotropical migratory birds resting and nesting in its treetops to frogs and salamanders seeking refuge in the forest floor’s seasonal ponds.
In 1983, The Nature Conservancy received a 2.5-acre gift of land that it donated to Cleveland Metroparks to provide an access point to the southern end of the park. Throughout the Chagrin River watershed, the Conservancy has helped protect more than 500 acres of public land.
What to See and Do
Head over to the North Chagrin Nature Center to check out the Forest Nightlife exhibit in the Nature Education Building, where one-way glass and an audio system bring the nocturnal wildlife experience indoors. Pack a lunch and bask in the serenity of the shag bark hickory grove or walk through a native woodland wildflower garden.
