Last summer, Lutsel K’e Dene youth embarked on a journey of a lifetime. Led by The Nature Conservancy and local guides, their expedition traveled via canoe through a landscape of great historic, cultural and environmental importance.
The trip will remain in the minds of the participants for the rest of their lives. A year removed from the experience, Lutsel K’e Dene youth, Damien Kailek, had this to say:
“The trip was an adventure I’ll never forget. Despite the bugs and rain, it was incredible to see a land I’ve never seen before…our land. When I got home I talked to my dad about the journey and it felt good to know what he knows about the place”
Renowned photographer Ami Vitale joined the voyage to chronicle the Thelon River experience. Her photos and video will ensure the vibrant images of the trip are shared by the local community, and the world, for many years to come.
