In the Gulf of Mexico, the health of both the economy and the wider Gulf communities are inextricably linked to the health of the environment. Unfortunately, as the Gulf’s natural resources — oyster reefs, coastal marshes, seagrass meadows — have declined, the economy has suffered, and people have become increasingly vulnerable to natural and man-made disasters.
