Webster Pierce: Restoration is Good Business

Louisiana entrepreneur invents system to protect coasts from erosion.

Business and community leaders in the Gulf clearly recognize the important link between a healthy environment and a thriving, resilient economy. Here is one example of a leader working to make a difference in the Gulf.

Webster Pierce is the founder and president of Pierce Industries, and the inventor of a patented coastal protection and restoration system, The Wave RobberTM, that has the potential to stop and reverse the impact of coastal loss. Mr. Pierce was the 2012 first place winner of the Louisiana Water Challenge, a competition among leading entrepreneurs in the water industry in Louisiana.

"I have lived my entire life in Cutoff, Louisiana, in South Lafourche Parish. Areas where I used to hunt and fish as a boy are now gone forever. I support coastal restoration because it is essential for preserving the way of life of the people who live in this area."

"I developed the Wave Robber technology to help prevent the further erosion of our coastline and protect fragile wetlands from storm surge. In order to reduce the vulnerability of our coast, we can’t only rely on levees – we need to rely on multiple lines of defense, including wetlands and barriers such as the Wave Robber, to protect coastal areas from storms and erosion."
