Business and community leaders in the Gulf clearly recognize the important link between a healthy environment and a thriving, resilient economy. Here is one example of a leader working to make a difference in the Gulf.
Dr. John Brawley is a Senior Marine Systems Ecologist with he Woods Hole Group, Inc., an international environmental, scientific, and engineering consulting organization. From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Brawley served as a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientist and team leader on several Natural Resource Damage and Assessment projects in the Gulf of Mexico. He also has worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Service’s Gulf of Mexico program on a number of projects including establishing a regional water quality and biological database.
“The Gulf is extensive, dynamic and diverse. I am optimistic about the future of the region, particularly in the will of the Gulf community to work together to rebuild and conserve the resources that have been lost and damaged. I think the Gulf of Mexico will continue to gain attention as the nation’s most important resource at risk and I am hopeful that the RESTORE Act will provide the support the region needs and that ongoing restoration efforts will continue unhindered.”
“The Woods Hole Group is expanding its presence in the region beyond our current Houston office. We are conducting storm surge modeling and assessment in Louisiana as well as research and development efforts for the region’s oyster aquaculture industry. We are also enhancing collaborations with The Nature Conservancy and other coastal stakeholders.”
