Lara joins The Nature Conservancy as the Director of Corporate Engagement. Prior to joining TNC Lara worked in the finance sector for Rabobank and Robeco Asset Management in the Netherlands for a number of years in the area of corporate engagement and policy development with a focus human rights and biodiversity and ecosystem services. Lara spent over ten years working for the government of Canada and the United Nations. As a policy advisor with the Ministry of Research and Innovation and the Ministry of Environment she helped develop innovation policy and financing mechanisms for new innovations in the clean tech sector. Her work with the United Nations Development Programme focused on the intersect of human rights and the environment, namely water governance, biodiversity conservation and scientific and technical cooperation among countries of the global south in Africa, Asia and the MENA region. Lara started her career as an environmental consultant on land remediation and conservation issues with the oil and gas sector in Canada. She chaired the ecosystem management advisory group of UNEP FI and was a member of the steering committee of the Natural Capital Declaration, a working group member of the extractive industry transparency initiative (EITI) and several UNPRI collaborations on business and human rights. Lara has earned a B.Sc. in Biology, a M.Sc. in Biology and M.A. in International Development Studies.
