But, as the country has become an increasingly important player in global trade, herders have started raising more goats to increase their cashmere yield. That's had a huge impact on some of the world's most critical remaining expanses of grasslands.

Enter NOYA Fibers, a business venture lead by MBA students at Colorado State University. In conjunction with Eastern Steppe herders who are working with The Nature Conservancy on a collaborative conservation plan, NOYA is creating new opportunities for people eager to pursue sustainable livelihoods.
