Dave DeGeus

Sustainable Agriculture Lead, Great Rivers Partnership

Brief Biography
“The future well-being of all life on our planet, including our great rivers, depends on our ability to create more productive and sustainable agriculture systems. It’s an exciting time for this farmer/ecologist to be working for TNC and its Great Rivers Partnership.”

Agriculture and the environment have been life-long career interests for Dave DeGeus. In his current role for The Nature Conservancy’s Great Rivers Partnership (GRP), he helps promote more sustainable agricultural systems as part of the GRP’s river conservation program.

Dave has also served as the Conservancy’s Upper Mississippi River watershed program director and director of conservation programs for Iowa. Prior to joining the Conservancy, he worked as a project coordinator for the Iowa County Soil and Water Conservation District. There he coordinated the Iowa River Corridor project – a 14,000-acre floodplain restoration that helped farmers recover from the great flood of 1993. In an earlier position with a statewide land trust he also initiated a coldwater stream program, which worked with northeast Iowa farmers to protect riparian corridors.

Dave earned a B.A. in biology from Iowa’s Central College and a M.S. in animal ecology from Iowa State University. His home office is located on a farmstead next to his family’s farm in south central Iowa where he manages a small operation in partnership with his brothers.
