World Water Forum

Offering solutions for a growing world.

The World Water Forum – organized every three years by the World Water Council – is the largest international event in the field of water and an important vehicle for global collaboration on water problems.

The theme of the 6th Forum is “A time for commitment and solutions.” As a member of the Board of Governors of the World Water Council, the Conservancy worked with IUCN, the Korean Government and the French Government to develop a Thematic Priority entitled “Promote Green Growth and Value Ecosystem Services”.

Our goal is to share innovative conservation solutions that support sustainable development and water security by:

  • Improving protection of water sources – rivers, lakes and lands that feed into them.
  • Providing practical alternatives to unsustainable ways of using freshwater resources.
  • Creating new mechanisms that attract investments in water source protection and establish multi-stakeholder governance to ensure results that have economic benefits for corporations and agriculture, and social benefits, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Conservancy partnership solutions featured at the Forum include:

  • Water Funds – finance mechanisms for water source protection
  • Great Rivers Partnership - convening diverse partners for science-based river management
  • Alliance for Water Stewardship – a global effort to create water stewardship standards
  • Integrated Management of Floodplains and Dams – science-based approaches to achieving a cost-effective mix of green and gray infrastructure
