The following is a statement from Brian McPeek, The Nature Conservancy's Chief Conservation Strategy Officer and North American Regional Managing Director:
“Today, we mark another milestone in our conservation efforts with the signing of the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement. Unprecedented in size and scope, this agreement unites Canada’s forest products industry with major environmental groups, including the Conservancy, in developing a process for conserving a core piece of Canada’s 1.6-billion-acre Boreal Forest. This agreement not only conserves Canada’s world-class forests, but does so in a way that sets the region on a sustainable path for management of a forest-based economy. It underscores that good conservation works for both people and nature. This is truly a landmark conservation success.”
“Today, congratulations are in order to the many Conservancy staff that spent countless hours making the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement a reality. Tomorrow, work continues to ensure the Agreement fulfills the opportunity to protect this large-scale forest by finding solutions that work for people and nature.”
