Forest Restoration Program Yields Results

Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Project

A new national report details successes of forest restoration.

Forests support our lives and livelihoods.  From the air we breathe, to the water we drink, to the jobs and products we depend on, the health of our forests are a foundation for the health of our nation.

The Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration (CFLR) program is a three-year old program that helps restore forests for people, water, and wildlife.  That’s why we’re thrilled to see this year’s report on the success of this program, which occurred at 23 sites across the nation.

The short of it is that this bipartisan, accountable program achieved the following in just this past year:

  • Created and maintained 4,574 full- and part-time jobs;
  • Generated nearly $320 million in labor income;
  • Reduced the risk of megafire on 612,000 acres;
  • Enhanced clean water supplies by remediating 6,000 miles of eroding roads;
  • Sold 95.1 million cubic feet of timber;
  • Improved 537,000 acres of wildlife habitat;
  • Restored nearly 400 miles of fish habitat.

What’s more, the CFLR program was able to leverage the original investment of $40 million with $45.4 million dollars from other public and private sources, multiplying its ability to achieve real collaborative forest actions.

Take a look at some of the people who are working on, and benefiting from, forest restoration below, and keep an eye on this collaborative program that helps people, water, and wildlife!
