Honoring the Military who Honor Nature
Nature and the Military
When you think about people who work to conserve and protect nature, military personnel and organizations probably aren't at the top of your list.
But we found five military service members - one from each branch, and the Coast Guard - who honor their nation and nature. These service members prove that the military and nature can - and do - intersect.
You can also learn about how the Department of the Defense and The Nature Conservancy are working together to save lands and waters across the United States.
Thomas Fouke, Jr., United States Navy
Thomas Fouke was an officer and a supporter of The Nature Conservancy before he made the ultimate sacrifice while training with the Navy.
Brian Lionbarger, United States Marine Corps
Brian is a veteran of the Marines and is running the Marine Corps Marathon to support Team Nature.
