These ancient reptiles are one of the few species to survive from the time of dinosaurs. Known as crocodiles, alligators, and caiman, crocodilians are predators that live in freshwater rivers, lakes, and lagoons. Most hunt for prey, but many lie in wait at the edge of rivers before they strike.
American Alligator
The American alligator ranges throughout the American southeast, where it basks by day and hunts by night. Learn more
Common Caiman
Once other crocodilian populations became depleted in the 1950s, hunters began harvesting caimans for their skins. Learn more
Nile Crocodile
Adult male Nile crocodiles can reach up to 20 feet in length and weigh well over 1,000 pounds. Learn more
