The Nature Conservancy Launches "Nature Near You" Mobile App for iPhone, Android

Nature Near You allows users capture, explore, and engage with nature using their smartphones


Arlington, VA | October 12, 2012

The Nature Conservancy recently launched Nature Near You, a mobile app for smartphones that allows users to explore the natural world around them through photography, maps, and social sharing. Nature Near You is available as a free download on the iPhone and Android mobile platforms.

Users of Nature Near You will be able to take their own nature photography and share it with their own social networks, with The Nature Conservancy Flickr community and with other users of the app. The app also provides additional features that make exploring nature fun and accessible. Users are able to use the map features to find the nature preserves in their area as well as nature photography by location. Extras include downloadable wallpaper, photo of the day and nature news.

The Nature Near You app includes:

• Built in camera that allows users to directly capture their own nature photography within the app
• Social sharing feature with ability to upload to Twitter, Facebook, email or The Nature Conservancy’s Flickr page.
• Nature Photo of the Day
• Recent photos taken by others using the Nature Near You app
• Map view of photos taken using the Nature Near You app with ability to zoom in by location or region
• Nature preserve map to find preserves by location or region
• Donation page for online and text donations
• Mobile wallpaper download section
• Nature News section
