TV viewers in the United States were dazzled this March by the Discovery Channel’s debut of Planet Earth, a nature documentary including never-before-seen spectacles of life and death: a snow leopard pursuing a goat-antelope, grizzly bear cubs leaving their den for the first time, lions successfully taking down a lone elephant.
We offer here a sampling of the surprising fare that is Planet Earth, adapted from the companion book of the same name. Read on, then go to nature.org/earth for a feast of information about the featured habitats and species, as well as video clips and discounted DVDs for those who missed the broadcast.
You just might see the world in a whole new way.
