In Response to Place:
Photographs from The Nature Conservancy’s Last Great Places
With the instruction to go forth and shoot, The Nature Conservancy commissioned a dozen leading photographers—including Annie Leibovitz, Lee Friedlander, William Wegman and Sally Mann—to document some of the Earth’s Last Great Places. Given free rein, the photographers used their unique perspectives and techniques to capture the essence of their chosen terrain. The results have been collected in a traveling exhibition and accompanying volume, In Response to Place: Photographs from The Nature Conservancy’s Last Great Places (Bulfinch Press, $50). Elemental and definitive, these images testify to the enduring appeal of places and people.
