Cosmo Doogood's Urban Almanac: Celebrating Nature and Her Rhythms in the City
By Eric Utne (Cosmo's Urban Almanac / $12.95)

Inspired by teaching Ben Franklin’s 1733 Poor Richard’s Almanack to his class of eighth graders, Eric Utne (founder of Utne magazine) set out to create an almanac for our times. The resulting compendium encourages city dwellers to connect with nature by “looking up, looking out, looking in”: up at the weather; out at our fellow creatures; and in, to our own souls, through seasonal meditations, poems and quotes. With guides to the night sky and urban wildlife, as well as an “essential miscellany” of thought-provoking tidbits from literature high and low, there is inspiration aplenty for every urbanite.
