Unexpected Indiana: A Portfolio of Natural Landscapes
Photography by Ron Leonetti and Christopher Jordan (Indiana University Press / $35.00)
Photographers Ron Leonetti and Christopher Jordan provide abundant visual evidence that the crossroads of America is also a nexus of biodiversity. From cypress sloughs in the south to sand dunes in the north, Indiana’s natural treasures include hardwood forests, remnants of virgin prairie and water, water everywhere: bogs, fens, lakes, even aquatic caves. The images depict the details of a sycamore’s roots, of oak leaves limned with frost. Larger vistas, too, share a sense of quiet intimacy. Featuring several Nature Conservancy preserves, the book is introduced by the director of the Conservancy’s Indiana chapter, Mary McConnell, who invites readers to “expect the unexpected. Delight in the truth.”
