Even though Latin America is relatively rich in water, it is unevently distributed and many areas are experiencing or could experience severe water scarcity, which affects the region's optimal development.
An increase in worldwide food demand represents an opportunity for the region, but Latin America will have to become a leader in sustainable food production while protecting its vital forests, grasslands and marine areas.
As Latin America continues to grow, it will need new infrastructure. The challenge is to encourage more sustainable infrastructure development to preserve the region's environment and natural systems.
