About this Partnership
$1 Million Charitable Gift
Lowe’s Companies, the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation and The Nature Conservancy announced a $1 million gift that will help protect critical habitat and public recreational areas across four Northeast states. The funds will be used to protect and restore clean water in Vermont, to finalize the protection of 35 acres in New Hampshire’s Great Bay, to secure and restore 150 acres of habitat in upstate New York, and to start an expansion of the Massachusetts state park reserve with the acquisition of 270 acres of old growth forests. Additionally, state chapters in Vermont and New Hampshire will use the funds to educate and engage the local community about conservation.
The project areas provide numerous outdoor activities to local residents while also serving as home for a variety of threatened and endangered species, including the Karner Blue butterfly. “The growing trend to subdivide large tracts of land for development is having a devastating impact on the forests of America’s Northeast,” said Steve McCormick, president and CEO of The Nature Conservancy. “With this funding from Lowe’s, The Nature Conservancy will be able to restore and protect critical wildlife habitat and watersheds that provide essential resources to local communities across the Northeast.”
