Stacey Kilarski
Marine Science Technician
Brief biography
As Marine Science Technician for the Global Marine Initiative, Stacey Kilarski provides scientific, technical, project management, and overall support for the Marine Protected Areas Program. Working closely with Dr. Alan White, Stacey helps to advance the development and effectiveness of resilient MPA networks by linking efforts within the Conservancy, as well as with other partners, including non-governmental organizations and scientists. Her responsibilities include coordinating field projects, maintaining learning partnership networks and links, and providing technical support and input to the design of MPA workshops and education initiatives.
Prior to joining the Conservancy in 2007, Stacey worked with NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service where she supported the development and implementation of management plans and regulatory actions for coral reef, pelagic, crustacean, and bottom fish fisheries in Guam, American Samoa, Marianas Islands, and Hawaii. A focus of her responsibility was coordinating policy and legal issues among local, state, and federal government partners, scientists, and resource managers pertaining to fishery management decisions.
Stacey’s experience in marine science includes: facilitating and coordinating trainings and capacity-building workshops for marine and coastal management practitioners; developing, implementing, and analyzing socioeconomic assessments; carrying out underwater coral reef and fish surveys; and designing education material and teaching at education programs throughout the Florida Keys and the California Channel Islands.
