Nina P. Hadley
Program Coordinator, Global Marine Initiative
Brief biography
As Program Coordinator of The Nature Conservancy's Global Marine Initiative, Nina Hadley provides scientific and technical support for the Initiative and contributes its overall strategic direction and vision. She provides leadership on creating and improving methods for efficiently sharing marine conservation information and resources among practitioners.
A significant part of Nina’s position involves connecting people and resources to advance the Conservancy’s reach and efficacy in marine conservation. She contributes to the identification, development and implementation of communication products, marketing and fundraising strategies, learning tools, services, presentations and conferences to meet the needs of specific audiences. She also provides technical support for the Conservancy’s advancement of conservation action planning for marine and coastal sites.
Nina joined the Conservancy in 2003 and has nearly 10 years experience in marine conservation and outreach. Before joining the Conservancy, Nina was the principal of a consulting firm, focusing her work at the nexus of marine conservation, protected area management and tourism planning in the Pacific Rim region. Her previous project work included launching and coordinating a regional education and outreach campaign which connected the tourism industry to environmental information and resources for positive change. During her four years as Communication Coordinator for the Washington Sea Grant Program, she also worked as a Coastal Specialist to conduct a study of coastal communities to evaluate tourism's socio-economic importance, environmental benefits and risks and policy structure. She completed her graduate research at Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge which resulted in a tourism strategy plan for sustainable tourism in a marine protected area.
Nina holds a Master of Marine Affairs degree from the University of Washington, a B.S. in Marine Science from the University of South Carolina and a Marine Option Program certificate from the University of Hawaii.
