Technical Advisor for Water Management
Global Freshwater Team

As Technical Advisor for Water Management, Jeff Opperman works with partner organizations to implement ecologically sustainable water management.  Through this work, Jeff helps to continue building the partnership between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Conservancy programs to develop flow regimes below dams to restore and conserve aquatic and riparian ecosystems. Jeff focuses on floodplain restoration and is exploring the policy and institutional factors that either hinder or facilitate the implementation of new inundation patterns on floodplains.

Prior to joining the Conservancy, Jeff coordinated watershed assessment and riparian restoration projects, developed workshops and educational material on stream management for landowners. He completed his post-doctoral research at the University of California, Davis studying floodplain processes.  Jeff received a B.S. in biology from Duke University and a Ph.D. in ecosystem science from the University of California, Berkeley.  His research papers have been published in Restoration Ecology, Environmental Management, and fisheries journals.
