Global Freshwater Team

Jonathan C. Kaledin is the Director of The Nature Conservancy’s new Blue Water Certification Program—a joint effort of the Conservancy’s legal, international government affairs, and global freshwater departments. Jonathan joined the Conservancy in September 1995, and except during the 2003-2004 period, when he served as General Counsel of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, he has been the New York State Counsel for the Conservancy.

Prior to joining the Conservancy, Jonathan practiced law in both the private and public sectors, including with the law firm of Goulston & Storrs and with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he was part of the federal team overseeing the Boston Harbor cleanup litigation—the largest Clean Water Act lawsuit in the country’s history. He also served as Director of the National Water Education & Funding Councils from 1991 to 1995, an advocacy and public policy project aimed at publicizing clean water infrastructure funding needs in the U.S. and advocating for increased federal funding of Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act projects.

Jonathan received his Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law, and his Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude from Harvard University.
