Rebecca Tharme
Senior Freshwater Scientist
Global Freshwater Team

In her role as Senior Freshwater Scientist for the Global Freshwater Team, Rebecca works closely with Conservancy colleagues and partners, including those in the Mexico and Central America programs. Rebecca promotes the adoption of environmental flow policy and practice in river basin management and strategic planning for freshwater conservation, to ensure the ecological integrity of wetland ecosystems in the region.

Before joining The Nature Conservancy, Rebecca was a postgraduate of the University of Cape Town, South Africa. With a background in wetland ecology, she most recently worked as a researcher with the Global Research Division of the International Water Management Institute. Her research centered on interdisciplinary approaches to environmental flow assessment in different basin development contexts, ecohydrology, and wetlands-agricultural systems interactions. As a researcher and writer, Rebecca has published in a wide range of peer reviewed and technical publications. She is a member of the Scientific and Technical Review Panel of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, and was a contributing author to the recently completed global Comprehensive Assessment of Water Management in Agriculture and earlier Millennium Ecosystem Assessment.
