With your support, we can conserve and restore forests around the world for people and nature.

You can take simple steps today to help protect and restore the world's forests.

  1. Understand the origins of your wood and paper products. Choose wood, furniture, paper and other products certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which promotes responsible stewardship of the world's forests. If these products are not available at your favorite stores, ask stores to begin carrying FSC-certified wood and paper products.
  2. Buy or cut firewood only near where you plan to use it; transporting wood can cause the spread of invasive insects and diseases.
  3. Clean your boots carefully after hiking in a forest to avoid spreading diseases such as sudden oak death.
  4. Until stronger federal regulations are in place for plant imports, consider buying seeds or locally grown plants from nurseries.
  5. Write to your representative and voice your concern about insects and plant diseases traveling on plant imports.
  6. Support climate change legislation that includes incentives for reducing emissions by protecting and restoring forests.
  7. Test your forest knowledge with our online quiz.
  8. Enjoy a forest near you by hiking, birding, hunting or camping. Visit our interactive guide to find a Conservancy preserve near you.
  9. Donate online to support The Nature Conservancy's work to protect and restore forests around the world.
