Eric Haxthausen
Senior Policy Advisor

Brief biography
Eric Haxthausen is a Senior Policy Advisor on climate change at The Nature Conservancy, where he manages the Conservancy’s efforts relating to federal climate policy.  He has nearly a decade of experience in climate, energy, and environmental policy, with special expertise in regulatory policy and environmental economics. Eric previously managed Environmental Defense’s efforts to improve federal fuel economy standards for light trucks and worked on a variety of climate policy issues there, including successful efforts to pass state laws to increase awareness of and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  His experience includes service in the White House Office of Management and Budget, where he participated in the development and review of numerous major environmental regulations, including standards to reduce emissions from the transportation, electricity, refining, and other manufacturing sectors.  He has also worked as an economic consultant on climate and other environmental issues.

Eric holds an M.S. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Masters in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.  He began his career in the physical sciences, earning a bachelors degree in astrophysics from Columbia University.
