Primary Conservation Objective
TNC's wants to ensure that this unique lodge and natural area be retained forever predominantly in its natural and scenic condition in order to protect water quality, native plants, and animals, while allowing for limited development, farming of existing fields, and outdoor activities such as hiking, hunting, and fishing.

Biodiversity Highlights
Property is 100 acres of native Appalachian forest in close proximity to the nationally recognized Clinch River. The property provides habitat for numerous plant and animal species including an array of songbirds. It is located upstream of biologically significant mussel shoals at Semones and Grays Islands. These shoals support a wide range of mussel and fish species, some of which are globally rare.

Qualifications and Restrictions
Rikemo Lodge will be offered as a single tract and cannot be subdivided. All improvements will be located within a building envelope. Commercial use and development will be prohibited, except for the continued use of the property as a backcountry lodge and meeting center. Forest management will be subject to an approved plan, and agricultural activities will be limited to existing fields. Preference will be given to buyers interested in continuing to provide public access for lodging and meetings, though that is not a requirement of the sale.
