Description
The Ortiz Mountain Ranch, which encompasses the west face of the Ortiz Mountains, is located approximately 20 miles south of Santa Fe, New Mexico on Highway 14 (the well known Turquoise Trail, a National Scenic ByWay; http://www.turquoisetrail.org ). Also to the north are the historic towns of Madrid and Cerrillos. Thirty miles south is the Sandia Peak Ski Area and Interstate 40 which provides access to Albuquerque.

Primary Conservation Objective
The Ortiz Mountains – Todilto Limestone conservation area is an ecoregional priority site. It extends from the Ortiz Mountains at an elevation of 8,900 feet westward into a gradually sloping plain to an elevation of approximately 5,000 feet. The vegetation ranges from plains-mesa grasslands and piñon-juniper woodlands in the lower elevations to ponderosa pine and mixed conifer forests within the higher elevations of the foothills. The conservation area supports a number of species-level targets, most notably grama grass cactus (Toumeya papyracantha(G4)), Galisteo sand verbena (Abronia bigelovii (G3)) and Santa Fe milkvetch (Astragalus feensis(G3)). The area is also historically significant and is located on a National Scenic ByWay.

Biodiversity Highlights
The property supports a number of species-level targets, most notably grama grass cactus (Toumeya papyracantha(G4)), Galisteo sand verbena (Abronia bigelovii (G3)) and Santa Fe milkvetch (Astragalus feensis(G3)).

Qualifications and Restrictions
A conservation easement on the Santa Fe County lands prevents subdivdion, road construction and other development. Ranching related activities and improvements are permited. The 320 acre headquarters is protected by an easment which focuses on scenic values, but otherwise permits development.
