Description
Bear Mountain Lodge is a nature based guest lodge operated by the New Mexico program of The Nature Conservancy since 2001. It is located on 179 acres approximately three miles north of Silver City, New Mexico. The property includes a twelve guest room bed and breakfast facility with commercial kitchen, laundry and equestrain improvements.

Primary Conservation Objective
The Nature Conservancy's conservation objectives for the property are to preserve it's open space character.

Biodiversity Highlights
The property offers beautiful open space, views and access to public lands.  Common plants would include:  pinyon pine, alligator juniper, yucca, agave, silk tassel, blue grama grass, bear grass, buffalo grass, and gray oak.  Common animals include: mexican jay, mule deer, javelina, raven, cougar.  The landscape is a transition zone between Chihuahuan desert grassland and pinon-juniper woodland adjacent to the Gila National Forest.

Qualifications and Restrictions
Proposed restrictions will allow a single lot split of no less than forty acres. Improvements will be limited to a single residence with guest house and appropriate outbuildings on either lot. The lodge may be expanded.
