The secluded and private Barr tract features over 1,000 feet of frontage on the Dix River and approximately 1,000 feet of frontage on Sawmill Branch. The tract contains several waterfalls and beautiful views of limestone cliffs, and is in an area that is perfect for boating, fishing and hunting. The tract consists mostly of slopes and bottomland along the Dix River and is well-forested.

Primary Conservation Objective
The primary conservation objective is to protect the water quality of the Kentucky River and tributaries and to preserve the unusual natural communities (mostly associated with outcrops and caves) found in this conservation area.

Biodiversity Highlights
The Kentucky River Palisades Conservation Area contains a continuous strip of forest and a river valley surrounded by high limestone bluffs, cliffs, and ledges. Several unusual natural communities (mostly associated with outcrops and caves) are found in this conservation area, including mesic bottomland and upland forest, dry-mesic and dry upland forest, and xeric upland forest. The conservation area has become a refugium for many increasingly rare and restricted bluegrass species, including the Gray Bat (Myotis grisescens), Running Buffalo clover (Trifolium stoloniferum), Water Stichwort (Stellaria fontinalis) and Walter's Violet (Violeta walteri).

Qualifications and Restrictions
Restrictions on the property will include no commercial development, no new roads, no timbering and no agricultural activities.
