Protecting Deserts and
Arid Landscapes

Learn more about the Conservancy's work to protect Planet Earth's deserts.

Deserts are among the harshest habitats on Earth. Baking sun scorches the earth during the day, and temperatures plummet at night. Water and food are scarce, so the species that make their home in the desert must be hardy and adaptable.

FPO

Gila Woodpecker

In the desert trees are scarce, so the Gila woodpecker makes it home inside the giant saguaro cactus.

FPO

Roadrunner
