Crystal Light

Crystal Light supported The Nature Conservancy's U.S. freshwater conservation program

Crystal Light, one of Kraft Foods’ most popular brands, recognized a connection between water, which is at the core of Crystal Light, and the need to protect and conserve freshwater resources. Therefore, in order to support the Conservancy’s freshwater program, Crystal Light contributed $750,000 to The Nature Conservancy’s freshwater program from Crystal Light powdered drink mix products sold on World Water Day, March 22, 2010. The proceeds helped support five freshwater conservation projects that sustain life and livelihood along some of America’s most celebrated bodies of water. Additionally, by encouraging people to support the Conservancy, Crystal Light helped build awareness about the importance of clean water and freshwater conservation.

Projects receiving funds include:

Colorado River The river is the lifeblood of the intermountain West and touches seven states. It has been impacted by rapid population growth in the west.

Great Lakes Basin The Great Lakes Basin holds a fifth of the fresh water on Earth and impacts millions of Americans living along its shores. Even here, freshwater resources are in trouble as a result of climate change, water development and use.

Meramec River The Meramec River is a key part of the Mississippi River, the third largest river in the world.  It is home to an abundance of fish, crayfish and mussel beds and serves as an important resource for drinking water, agriculture and recreation.

Potomac River The Potomac River provides drinking water to 4.3 million people living in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.  It is being impacted by rapid population growth and land use change in the basin.

Southern Rivers Southern rivers and streams, such as the Pascagoula River in Mississippi and the Flint River in Georgia, span all 15 southern states. Recent droughts and increasing water demands have threatened these important bodies of water.
