This large block of forest in southern Wisconsin provides ideal habitat for songbirds. Several rare species including the Hooded, Cerulean, and Worm-eating warblers can be seen in the Baraboo Hills.

The violets at Spring Green are not the shy woodland blossoms but the bright, flaunting, sun-loving variety—the bird-food violets. These small beauties grow in profusion like blue carpets spread on the yellow sands of the Spring Green Preserve.

Where: Many Conservancy prairies
When: Mid-September through October
Volunteers help collect native grass and wildflower seeds, including Indian grass, big bluestem, asters, blazing star and lead plant, from many Conservancy prairies. Volunteers also help spread the seed in the fall and spring to restore grassland habitat.

A walk through the forests at the Mink River Estuary is a great way to enjoy Wisconsin's fall color season. The scenery is spectacular as the leaves of the maple, yellow birch and beech trees change from green to gold, orange and red.
