A carpet of native wildflowers covers Yellow Island each spring. This 11-acre island in the San Juans has one of the densest concentrations of native wildflowers in the archipelago. Cactus, paintbrush, blue camas lilies and buttercups abound.

Open to the public (boat access only).

When: December through February
More than 400 bald eagles congregate on the Skagit each winter to feast on spawned-out chum salmon. This is one of the largest eagle gatherings in the lower 48 states. The Conservancy owns 1,155 acres and has helped to protect more than 10,000 acres.

Open to the public (two pullouts along the highway).
