The wetlands in the Swan River Oxbox Preserve, located between the Swan Range and the Mission Mountains, support a variety of rare species including the water howellia, a federally listed threatened species. The plant grows mostly below the surface of the water, but its white flowers emerge during the end of July and beginning of August.
