Volunteers will help count the globally rare geocarpon minimum flowers found only on channel sandstone glades in southwest Missouri.

Each year, male prairie chickens concentrate on their leks to begin their flamboyant mating rituals. The mating rituals include a strutting courtship dance, drumming on the ground with the feet and a loud booming call that can be heard across the prairie.

Volunteers will help to identify and count butterflies.

Where: Sandy Island Bald Eagle Sanctuary
When: November through March
Hundreds of bald eagles take up winter residence at Sandy Island Bald Eagle Sanctuary along the Mississippi River. From a lookout platform visitors can watch them hunt for fish in the river.

Open to the public. Facilities available: viewing platform.
